Identify and understand land cover change quickly and effectively.

Challenge

The Regional Association Ruhr as a regional authority is responsible for the registration and maintenance of the land use plan (FNP) in the association area. The land use plan is a planning instrument of the public administration in the system of spatial planning of the Federal Republic of Germany, with which the urban development of the municipalities is to be controlled.
The updating of the FNP ties up resources, as this has so far mostly been carried out by manual evaluation of orthophotos or also by on-site mapping.
In the course of the project, remote sensing methods were developed that allow the automated determination of certain object types of the underlying catalog from remote sensing data, specifically orthophotos, LIDAR and sentinel data.

Services

The company mundialis has fully implemented the project. The implementation took place in the following work steps:

  • Analysis of the customer’s inventory data
  • Research, evaluation and assessment of complementary data sources such as openNRW, Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 and others.
  • Evaluation of high-resolution satellite data (Airbus Pléiades)
  • Creation of remote sensing methods for various classes of the object type catalog.
    • Forest, forest types (deciduous/coniferous forest), open areas, copses
    • Inland waters
    • agricultural land
    • Buildings (structural and civil engineering)
    • a.o.
  • Quality assurance based on orthophotos
  • Handover of software and result data as well as documentation to the client
